A Different Christmas Poem

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream....

Operation: STEAMROLLER

The America's Army [DEV]elopment team has been at it again, this time with Steamroller. Here's what the latest SITREP has to say...

"Steamroller is an experiment in increasing the vertical dimension of close urban combat. Typically military online games max out around three levels of play space, but Steamroller offers six height levels of game play. Accompanying the vertical attributes is the see through level concept. Despite being packed with buildings, a player can view and interact with the other side of the map due to holes left by previous battle damage."

GR:AW v1.2 patch

It doesn't fix the main issue concerning most of us, which is a dedicated LMS/TDM mode, but it's a patch nonetheless. Here's what it does do:

A serious timing issue that could cause servers to crash or
lock up on map rotation after a 7-10 hour idle period has been fixed.
Increased the grace period for anticheat to receive a reply from the client.
Fixed crash where AI snipers would crash the game when noticing vehicles.

You can download the patch from FileFront

Independance Day 2006

As The Final Option moves into it's sixth year, we once again celebrate another 4th of July. Most of you know that it is at this time, that I scour the Internet for inspirational quotes that I feel are important to remember. This year is no different.

I wish everyone; teammates, friends, and visitors alike, a very happy and safe Fourth of July.

"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win
glorious triumphs-even though checkered by failure
than to take rank with these poor spirits who
neither enjoy much or suffer much. Be wise, they
live in the gray twilight that know not of
victory, nor defeat. Nor true sorrow nor true
love."

Rainbow Six: Lockdown Demo Released

Ubisoft has released the demo for Rainbow Six: Lockdown. R6 was the first modern style first person shooter, and was the game which The Final Option was founded upon.

RSL puts us in the shoes of Domingo Chavez once again as he attempts to stop an extremely unfriendly bioengineered virus from getting unleashed on the populace. Each mission provides a slick video briefing, maps, and extensive loadouts for your four-person team. The individual members are interchangeable, unfortunately, with every member having the same proficiency with every choice in your arsenal, whether it's an MP5 submachine gun, a combat shotgun, or an Armalite...

GRIN Lead Developer, Ulf Andersson, was on IRC last night answering questions about the upcoming release Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter. Questions ranged from HUD concerns, to the replayability of single player missions. One bright point to mention was the announcement of a demo, to be released in early 2006!
