The Final Option was formed sometime in June of 2000. Team leader, Phoenix, was a frequent Rainbow Six player on the Microsoft Gaming Zone, playing friendly games on any server he could join. He was asked to join a clan, Sudden Impact Force by SIF's leader Razor. While SIF was filled with some very good players, they were unorganized and Phoenix left after a short while and decided to try to start a team of his own. With Rainbow Six's counter terrorism theme in mind, Phoenix decided to name his team The Final Option after the 1982 movie of the same name.
"A band of desperate terrorists take over the American ambassador's home in London, and their violence sets into motion a chain of events that could lead to nuclear war. Unknown to the terrorists, a member of an elite counter terrorist team is one of their hostages. As the situation grows increasingly tense, the goverment realizes that police negotiations will not suceed in diffusing the situation. With no other choice they must call upon the secret CT group who, coordinating with their member inside the embassy, execute a precision strike in an attempt to save the hostages, and the world. The decision is made to implement...
The Final Option."
Thus, TFO was born.

Phoenix, sporting his new TFO tag, began setting up recruiting rooms on the Zone. After a short while a player named FoX joined the room. FoX was an excellent player and he and Phoenix soon became friends with FoX teaching Phoenix some of the finer points of multiplayer tactics. FoX decided to join the team, which now consisted of a total membership of two. The two members decided to switch over to a new game, Rogue Spear.

TFO launched it's first web site through Yahoo Geocities. A dismal attempt at best, but at least a place to call home. The next major event happened soon afterwards. As FoX was instructing Phoenix on tactical game play, so too was he instructed by another. Snowfake, arguably one of the best FPS players on the Net, decided to join TFO. With Snow taking tactical command of the small group, TFO began to make a name for itself, and became a genuine force to be reckoned with. This attracted some attention of the rest of the online gaming community, and Snow began his first recruitment campaign. Several new members joined the ranks. Most notably Majin and Moose. Under Snow's tutelage each member became specialized in a certain task, and with Snow acting as field commander, TFO flourished.

The time came to once again switch games, this time to Red Storm's newest title, Ghost Recon. Phoenix, with the invaluable help of a new member, AzzKiKr, launched a new home for the squad, and then made decision that would change the course of The Final Option forever. TFO signed up for The Rumble Online Gaming Ladder. The Rumble was the premiere online competition ladder with some of the best players and teams to be found anywhere. TFO quickly jumped into the competition and began making a name for itself, and also made some new friends along the way. Things started to happen quickly after this point. Some of the teams highlights were:

  • TFO (playing under the name Ancient Warriors) finishes in 4th place in the first official Ghost Recon tournament
  • Phoenix becomes a News Admin for The Rumble
  • TFO advances up The Rumble Ladder to 3rd place
  • TFO aquires its own dedicated Ghost Recon server

  • TFO joins and begins competing on The Combat Zone
  • TFO forms a new squad to compete in Raven Shield

  • TFO begins competing in America's Army
  • TFO aquires its own America's Army server
  • TFO joins the Cyberathlete Amatuer League
  • The fifth, and current, website design is released
Eight years in the making, dozens of members, and thousands of matches, TFO has withstood it all. Garnering respect from other teams as a group of fair, fun, and sometimes a little crazy team of extremely talented players. With members from all over the globe, and in the spirit of the game that started it all, Rainbow Six... The Final Option is the true international team.
